ON4KST Chat

From time to time messages appear on the cluster pertaining to KST chat, like "pse KST" or "pse ON4KST" or other similar variations. For those not in the 'know' this is a gem for the modern ham radio operator, as it is a gateway to new friends and opens the possibility of many, many skeds previously not possible.

KST chat is a web based 'chat room'. It is not a client application, java applet or any other permutation of 'third party' software; it is browser based and I can testify that it works without problem on Firefox and Explorer and I am certain it would work equally well on other platforms. Indeed that fact that it is not platform dependant makes it a perfect means to keep in touch. It does not cost anything or ply one with endless advertisements.

It is FREE.

There is a telnet login for those that want to access a telnet based environment; packet fans and those with no internet at home or on DXped, for example.

One only needs to register HERE and after that you are free to enter and leave the browser based chat room any time you like. The chats are split into 5 categories, so suit peoples' needs :-

50 / 70 MHz

144 / 432 MHz

Microwaves

Low Band (80-160m)

EME/JT65/CW

This is an example of how I have mine laid out, however you can rearrange the panes and add other functions:-

KST has some really nice features that go well-beyond the simple functionality of a chat room.

The browser can be configured into frames if desired, to show more information. To the left here is the Right Hand Side of my particular configuration which shows the DX cluster (configured to show ONLY 50 & 70 MHz spots) and the current user list below, which shows the coming and going of participants.

To the right is another example which also has the DX Map and WWV information shown on the page.

Go to [Menu] > [Change Settings] and this user-configuration dialog presents which allows you to change the KST interface to your heart's content!

So what are you waiting for? If you are not registered on KST hurry up and join us!

If you are registered, I hope you are logged in!
